Questions people actually ask

What happens after the year of updates runs out?

Nothing. The version you have keeps working forever — there is no check-in, no server, and no way for us to switch it off. You only pay again if you want the newer builds.

Is there a subscription I am going to get caught by?

No. Both licences are bought once. There is no renewal, no auto-charge and no account that can lapse.

Can I use Kuthu at an event I am being paid for?

Kuthu plays music; it does not license it. Songs streamed from YouTube are covered by YouTube's own terms, which allow personal, non-commercial viewing — so a paid event is not something we can sell you the right to do, and we do not. If you are running an event as a business, the venue or the organiser normally needs a public performance licence, whatever the music is played from. That is worth checking before the night rather than after it.

Do I need to pay YouTube for anything?

No. The YouTube Data API key Kuthu uses for searching is free, with a daily allowance far larger than a party needs. A YouTube Premium account is worth having for a different reason — it removes ads, which is the single biggest improvement you can make to how the night flows — but Kuthu works without one.

Mac? Anything that is not a laptop?

Windows ships today. A macOS build is in development, and so is an Android TV / Google TV / Fire TV app that puts Kuthu on the television itself, with your phone as the console and no laptop in the room at all. Buying a licence covers every platform Kuthu reaches — you are buying the app, not a copy of it for one kind of machine.

Will I get ads?

Yes, the same ones YouTube shows anyone, and Kuthu never skips or blocks them — that is how the artists get paid. What it does is hold the segment clock still while an ad runs, so your song still gets its full chorus. If you would rather have none, YouTube Premium is the fix: sign the player into a Premium account and nothing interrupts a set. We earn nothing from that recommendation; it simply makes the app better and pays the people who made the music.

Refunds?

The free tier exists so you can run an actual party before paying. If you buy and it still is not for you, write within 30 days and you get your money back.
